the Rencontres Musicales de Vézelay ! The Rencontres Musicales de Vézelay have become, in the span of ten years, a ‘must’ for lovers of vocal music: the most reputed professional choirs and orchestras from all over Europe meet up at the end of August for eight concerts around a given theme chosen by Pierre Cao, the artistic director: The 2009 edition will invite Handel and his music on to the eternal hill of Vézelay, to express warlike and amorous passions. Famous names make a point of being there: Jordi Savall, Michel Corboz, Hervé Niquet, Frieder Bernius, Jean Tubéry, Christophe Coin, Concerto Köln, the Rias Kammerchor de Berlin, Cantus Cölln, the Nederlands Kamerkoor, Arsys Bourgogne, and many more… The specialised national and international press (“Les Rencontres Musicales de Vézelay bring Vocal Art to its heights”) and the general public (more the 6,000 people over 4 days, concerts sold out ) are unanimous about the quality of the concerts which are presented.
