Rencontres Musicales de Vézelay
Are you a lover of vocal art, are you prepared to support a dynamic and professional festival ? At a moment when a surge of enthusiasm in favour of choral music is overwhelming France, the Rencontres Musicales de Vézelay needs new partners to be able to continue its development.
The Rencontres Musicales de Vézelay have become, in the span of nine years, a ‘must’ for lovers of vocal music: the most reputed professional choirs and orchestras from all over Europe meet up at the end of August for eight concerts around a given theme chosen by Pierre Cao, the artistic director: 2006 celebrated Mozart and his contemporaries, 2007 took us to discover sacred music from near and far. 2008 will be devoted to music in the courts and chapels of Europe.
Famous names make a point of being there: Jordi Savall and the Concert des Nations, La Capella reial de Catalunya, Concerto Köln, Daniel Reuss and the Rias Kammerchor de Berlin, Cantus Cölln, Christophe Coin and the Ensemble baroque de Limoges, l’ensemble Gilles Binchois, les Basses Réunies de Bruno Cocset, the Nederlands Kamerkoor, the Schola Gregoriensis de Prague, Arsys Bourgogne, and many more.
The specialised national and international press (“Les Rencontres Musicales de Vézelay bring Vocal Art to its heights”, August 2004) and the general public (more the 4000 people over 4 days, figure which is constantly rising) are unanimous about the quality of the concerts which are presented. We like the atmosphere of the Rencontres to be simple and friendly, the general public mixing with the artists in the streets or gardens of the “eternal hill” of the basilica.
We can decide together which formula suits you best: sponsorship, patronage, a financial donation, a donation of goods. The new financial laws allowing for renewed expansion of cultural patronage (the real cost to you amounting only to 40 % of your donation) lets build this project around Vocal Art together. We would hope to proceed in this alliance taking care for mutual enrichment, so we will leave our future partners enough space for action to allow their personal strategy find favourable ground for growth inside our project.
Rencontres Musicales de Vézelay festival’s financial requirements
Our financial requirements
As an artistic entity, Rencontres Musicales de Vézelay festival is responsible for bringing together singers from all over Europe , for their board and lodging during rehearsal and concert periods, for their transport and remuneration.
A typical Rencontres Musicales de Vézelay festival production is organised thus: the singers rehearse a cappella with Pierre Cao for several days; they are joined by the orchestra for two or three days’ tutti rehearsal; and then the concert tour begins.
Our activities are subsidised by the Burgundy Region, the Yonne Département and the Ministère de la Culture (DRAC). Your contribution will help us to reinforce our presence in concert halls around the country by helping us to cover these expenses in respect of other productions which would not otherwise be possible.
Your contribution could vary according to your means and wishes. For example :
- For 5,000 € or more, you are a partner of the choir.
- For 10,000 € or more, you are the principal sponsor of a concert.
- For 20,000 € or more, you become one of Rencontres Musicales de Vézelay festival’s principal patrons.
You can also purchase a private concert and invite existing or prospective clients to a very special evening’s entertainment.
Your real cost is only 40%
The real cost to your company is much reduced by the provisions of the new Loi Aillagon passed in August 2003, relating to sponsorship and charitable associations; and more recently by Article 16 of the Loi de Finances for 2004 (see the Bulletin Officiel des Impôts 4C-5-04 n° 112 du 13 juillet 2004).
This law brought about the following changes:
1) A 60% tax reduction for all donations to causes of public interest. This means in practice:
- Individual donors: a reduction to their income tax liabilitity of 60% of the amount donated.
- Corporate donors: a reduction to their corporation tax liability of 60% of the amount donated.
2) A revision of the ceiling applied to tax liability reductions. These ceilings are now 20% of taxable revenues for individuals, and 0.5% of turnover for companies. Moreover, donations made in excess of these ceilings can be carried forward for five years for tax purposes.
3) Companies in particular can benefit fiscally from advantages in kind.

2) Priority access to events organised by Rencontres Musicales de Vézelay festival :
- Invitations to Arsys Bourgogne concerts all the year round, and reduced prices for further places if required.
- Invitations to concerts during the Rencontres Musicales de Vézelay festival, and reduced prices for further places if required.
3) The arrangements of special events :
- Your own private concert, to which you can invite existing or prospective clients, or your employees.
- Private guided tour of Vézelay and its Basilica.
