Biography

Jean Tubéry

Fascinated by the Italian music of XVII-th century, Jean Tubéry, after studies of recorder in the conservatoires of Toulouse and Amsterdam, decides to dedicate himself to one of the instruments the most suited to perform this repertoire : the cornetto.

He follows then the education of Bruce Dickey in Schola Cantorum of Basel, from which he obtains the diploma of concert performer. He played with groups such as the Clemencic Consort (René Clemencic), Clément Janequin (Dominique Visse), Les Arts Florissants (William Christie), Collegium Vocale Gand (Philippe Herreweghe), Concerto Vocale (René Jacobs), Hesperion XXI (Jordí Savall), Huelgas (Paul van Nevel), Cantus Cölln (Konrad Junghänel), Elyma (Gabriel Garrido), La Petite Bande (Sigiswald Kuijken), Il Giardino Armonico etc.

He creates la Fenice, with which he obtains the First prize of the International Competition of Ancient Music of Brugge (1990) and Malmö (1992). He has registered for Ricercar, Accent, Erato, Harmonia Mundi, Sony Classical, Virgin as well as for numerous radios and national televisions in Europe and in Japan.

The CD series "Monteverdi's inheritance" with the label Ricercar was greeted by specialist publications as a " major event in the universe of XVII-th century " (Repertoire, in April, 1998).

Besides, Jean Tubéry teaches the cornetto and gives classes of interpretation to the Superior Conservatoire - C.N.R. of Paris. It was invited to give master-classes to conservatoires national of Lyon, Luxemburg, in the European vocal Centre, in the Mannes college of New York, in the summer school of Connecticut (USA) and in Schola Cantorum of Basel (Switzerland).

His interest for the vocal repertoire also brings him to choir direction, which it studied with Hans Martin Linde and Pierre Cao. He was so called by groups such as Jacques Moderne (Tours), Dunedin Consort (Edimburgh), Arsys / Pole of vocal art of Bourgogne and Chamber Choir of Namur with which he collaborates regularly, on a repertoire going from the Renaissance in the French baroque of "Grand Siècle". Their recent recordings dedicated to Giovanni Gabrieli and to Marc Antoine Charpentier were qualified by the criticism of " references in this domain ".

In lyricals, Jean Tubery has been invited to perform "rappresentatione du Anima e di Corpo" from Cavalieri at the théâtre de la Monnaie in Bruxelles en 2001.

In 2001, Jean Tubéry was named " Chevalier de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres " by the Minister of the Culture Catherine Tasca

In 2006, he received the L.Bettencourt Price at the Académie des Beaux arts de Paris for his work with the Namur Chamber Choir.
