Biography
Marianne Beate Kielland
Mezzo-soprano
The young Norwegian mezzo-soprano Marianne Beate Kielland studied at the Norwegian State Academy of Music in Oslo. The season 2001/02 she was a member of the ensemble at the Staatsoper Hannover.
Marianne Beate Kielland has quickly established herself as one of Scandinavia’s foremost singers.
She has worked with conductors such as Daniel Reuss, Philippe Herreweghe, Masaaki Suzuki, Pierre Cao, Helmut Rilling, Manfred Honeck, Hans-Christoph Rademann, Andreas Spering, Christoph Spering, Jos van Immerseel,Claus Bantzer, Iona Brown, Ari Rasilainen, Joshua Rifkin, Harry Christophers, Edward Higginsbottom, Philip Picket, Helmut Müller-Brühl, Bruno Weil, and Christophe Coin.
She has sung Cantatas by Bach in Paris, Antwerp, Brussels, Munich, Gent, and Luzern with Orchestra and Choir of Collegium Vocale Gent, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in Brussels, Tokyo and Kanasawa with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Flanders, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion in Zürich, Cologne, Essen, and Baden Baden with the Cologne Chamber Orchestra, Mozart’s Requiem and Händel’s Messiah in Tokyo, Sapporo and Osaka with Bach Collegium Japan, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in Belgium with the conductor Jos van Immerseel,Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater with the Scharoun Ensemble Berlin, Bach’s Wedding Cantata BWV 216 in Tokyo and Osaka, Bruckner’s Mass in f-moll and Cantatas by Bach with the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart, Gossec’s La grande Messe de Mort with Concerto Köln, Ganymed in Franz von Suppé’s Die schöne Galathee with the WDR Cologne, Schmidt’s Das Buch mit sieben Siegeln with Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Mahler’s Rückertlieder with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with the Hamburger Camerata, Haydn’s Die sieben letzten Worte and Mozart Requiem at the festival in Vézelay, France, Cantatas by Bach in Weimar, Germany, and Cantatas by Bach in Cologne.
Marianne Beate Kielland many engagements with the RIAS Kammerchor Berlin have included Bach’s St. Matthew Passion in Berlin, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam and Essen, Händel’s Messiah in Berlin, Essen, Innsbruck, Bregenz, Amsterdam, Utrecht, Antwerp, Bilbao, Lisbon and Nantes, Mendelssohn’s Paulus in Berlin, Leipzig, Nantes, Poissy, Bilbao and Lisbon, Bach’s Magnificat and Mozart’s Requiem in La Chaise Dieu, and the title role in Händel’s Solomon in Lisbon.
Engagements with the conductor Philippe Herreweghe and Orchestre des Champs-Elysées have included Brahms’ Alto Rhapsody and Schumann’s Requiem für Mignon in Brussels, Utrecht and Cologne, Mozart’s Requiem and Mass in c minor in Paris, Turin, Liège and Bremen, and Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis in Paris, Utrecht and New York.
Upcoming assignments include Messaggiera and Speranza in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo with Rinaldo Alessandrini, Hamor in Händel’s Jephta with Fabio Biondi, Bach’s Mass in B minor at the Rheingau Musik Festival with Hans-Christoph Rademann and RIAS Kammerchor Berlin, Händel’s Messiah as well as Storgé in Händel’s Jephta in Holland and France with Daniel Reuss, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in France with Pierre Cao,Haydn’s Paukenmesse with Manfred Honeck, Bach’s St. John Passion in Paris, Nantes, Cologne and Essen with Christoph Spering, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with Jos van Veldhoven and The Netherlands Bach Society, Schumann’s Das Paradies und die Peri with Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, Johan Helmich Roman’s Swedish Mass in Ambronay and Copenhagen with Lars Ulrik Mortensen, and Mozart’s Mass in c minor with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.
